Helpful Herbs to Relieve Throat Pain

An irritated throat can cause terrible pain and be difficult to deal with. However, there are ways to avoid suffering with this condition. There are many herbal remedies that can be used to relieve the pain. These herbal treatments include burnet-saxifrage, garlic, ginger, marshmallow and slippery elm.

Burnet-saxifrage (Pimpinella major) – You can use the root of burnet-saxifrage for pain and upper respiratory infections. Mix three to six teaspoons of the root into a cup of boiling water and allow the water to continue to boil for about 15 minutes. Once the mixture has cooled drink it. Do this at least once a day. You can also add a little licorice for faster relief.

Garlic (Allium sativum) – Garlic is one of the most known of the naturopathic remedies for upper respiratory health issues. You can try it in a tea as a gargling agent or you can steam it with olive oil and add it to your favorite food. It helps with both antiviral (for colds) and antibacterial (for strep throat) conditions.

Ginger (Zingiber officinale) – Ginger has been used for centuries to help with relieving symptoms such as sore throat and other cold symptoms. Add half a cup of chopped ginger into boiling water, strain and wait until the water cools and then use it to gargle. For an even stronger potion and hopefully faster recovery, add lemon juice, vinegar and honey.

Marshmallow (Althaea officinalis) – Marshmallow has been used for centuries as a treatment for sore throats. It contains mucilage, which is a soothing water-soluble fiber. It works by coating the irritated tissues; thus relieving pain associated with inflammation.

Now that you have this great information, go ahead and make use of it, and try at least one of the natural aids. You will be glad you did, and your throat will thank you.
